Recycled polyester, which is what our swimwear fabric is made from, is created using recycled plastic bottles. Recycled polyester has a whole heap of benefits, such as waste-reduction (yay!). Using recycled plastics also cuts out the need for petroleum and coal extraction (double yay!).
Once plastic bottles are collected, they are then shredded into flakes by a machine (that can be run on renewable energy!). Those flakes are melted down into pellets, then the pellets are extruded (think spun and pulled like taffy) into yarn.
The yarn can then be knitted, cut, and sewn into all different types of clothing just like any other yarn - in our case swimwear fabric!
Plastic bottles can take up to 450 years to break down. Repurposing them into clothing is just one way we can make sure they don't end up damaging our environment further.

Why Recycling Plastic Bottles is Good Practice:
1. Reduces landfill
2. Conserves energy
3. Conserves the environment
