How to Care for your Liandra Swim

Swimwear is a staple in your wardrobe, but it's also one of the most delicate items you own. Because swimsuits are made from delicate materials and often have intricate details, they require special care to maintain their shape and quality.
If you take good care of your Liandra Swim, it will last longer and be more comfortable to wear in the water. In this Blog we'll go over how to wash your swimsuit so that it stays looking brand new for many more swims to come!

How often should I wash my swimwear?

Washing your swimwear after every wear can be a good way to care for it. However, we reccommend if you wear your swimwear in:
  • Chlorinated water, it should be washed every two wears
  • Salt water, then it should be washed every five wears
  • Both chlorinated and salt water, then wash it after every two wears.

Removing sand:

Even if you have a retractable telescopic umbrella, it's important to know how to properly care for your swimwear. When using a beach towel, make sure that it is clean and dry before using it on your body. To prevent sand from getting into your swimwear, use a toothbrush or comb to remove any loose pieces of sand before putting on any clothes.
If possible, use a hair dryer (on low hear) to remove excess moisture from inside of the bathing suit as this can cause mildew buildup over time which may cause odors when worn again later down the road!

Hand wash with cold water:

  • Hand wash your swimsuit.
  • Give your swimsuit some TLC by using a mild detergent and warm water. Don’t use fabric softener or bleach on your bikini, as these additives can cause damage to the elasticity of the fabric.
  • A gentle mesh bag will help protect your suit from snags during washing. We reccommend using the Guppy Friend, as it also works to capture harmful microplastics that seep from your swimsuits (and into our waterways) during the wash cycle.
  • Rinse in cold water before drying on a flat surface (like an ironing board). This helps prevent any shrinking that might occur when you put it in the dryer.*

    Drying your bikini:

    • Hang dry your swimwear.
    • Avoid the dryer at all costs, as it will make your bikini stretch out and lose its shape.
    • Don't iron your swimwear.
    • Don't use bleach to wash your swimwear.
      • Bleach can discolor some fabrics and even cause holes in them over time if you aren't careful with how much you use! It's best to just steer clear of this chemical altogether when it comes time for washing clothes so you don't accidentally ruin something that's supposed to be fun and easy (like your Liandra Swim).
    • Don't use fabric softener on your swimsuit—it can leave residue behind which could make the material feel less smooth against skin than normal (which isn’t ideal for something like a bathing suit).

Taking care of your swimwear will ensure you get the most out of it:

      • Hand wash with cold water to keep colors bright and prevent fading.
      • Dry your swimwear flat in the shade, not in a dryer!
      • Fabric softeners can leave a film on the fabric which will dull its appearance over time, so don't use them when you're drying your suit.
That’s it! You now know all the tips and tricks to keeping your swimwear clean and fresh. If you follow these tips, your Liandra Swim will look like new every time you wear it!
